Who we are

As a first-generation Australian and the daughter of a Sri Lankan refugee, I’ve spent much of my life grappling with uncertainty about my identity. Unlike my parents, I had the privilege of self-actualizing during my teenage years, given the space to discover who I am. Their untold stories moreover the silence around them, shaped me deeply. My journey is not unlike that of many other children of refugees. Today, I am proud of my heritage, my lineage, and my history. This project is something I hope will resonate with others like me—those who didn’t, and perhaps still don’t, know who they are.

This project is a meaningful opportunity for us, the youth, to learn about the sacrifices made by our parents and for those willing to share their stories to unpack and express what they’ve been through. I’m incredibly excited about this journey of discovery and connection, as we honour their experiences and deepen our understanding of resilience and hope.

Thank you,
